Addressing Workplace Issues Before They Turn Into a Crisis
Recent media coverage has focused closely on both the mental health issues of employees and new and older instances of suicides in the workplace. These come against the backdrop of the rising number of workplace-related suicides, which have increased in recent years, reaching an all-time high of 291 in 2016, according to data from EHS Daily Advisor. The trend reflects a broader, upward trend over nearly a decade in the United States, where 47,000 people took their own lives in 2017.
Given these circumstances, the need becomes apparent for companies to examine the policies and procedures that deal with their workers’ emotional health. RANE recently spoke with two experts about what organizations can do to address employees’ issues before they reach a crisis stage.
